The Master and Point Mixers
To access the Master Mixer in the V4 Tracking Engine, go to Audio-> Master Mixer. There is also a shortcut to the Master Mixer available above the inputs list on the main screen. Point Mixers are available by right-clicking on a Point and selecting "Point Mixer". The Master Mixer allows the user to adjust volume, delay and EQ ( 4 band parametric plus Hi and Lo adjustable shelving) on each of the system outputs. It is recommended that the Master Mixer is used when initially setting up a sound system to compensate for any level or tonal discrepancies or physical displacement between speakers. Should an individual speaker be moved physically or changed in any way after a number of Points have already been created, the Master Mixer gives the user the possibility to easily compensate for these changes in every Point simultaneously rather than having to edit each Point individually. By default, all outputs in the Master Mixer are set to 0db. By default, all outputs in a Point Mixer are set to off (infinity). Note that values applied to outputs in the Master Mixer are global and will be applied to every output in every Point Mixer. The following features are common to both the Master and Point Mixers. Delay values may be viewed by distance (metres) or time (milliseconds). Selecting "Local" view in the Point Mixer will show only the delay values entered via the currently selected mixer. Selecting "Total" view will show the total amount of delay being applied to the outputs. For example, in the case of a single output in a Point Mixer, the Total values will show the sum of all levels and delays applied to the following:
Output fader groups The V4 Tracking Engine provides the user with flexible and powerful output fader grouping options. Two types of Fader Groups are available:
1. VCA Group Masters Output faders may be grouped together and assigned to a group master. Go to VCA groups-> Create VCA Group to open the "Create VCA Group" dialogue box. Ctrl-Click to add multiple faders to the group. VCA groups can be named and a colour assigned to them. The overall level of the VCA group may then be adjusted by the group master VCA. Delay values may be entered in the group master section which will be added to the individual delay values of all outputs contained in the group. The group master may be soloed and muted. VCA Groups may be created in any mixer. All VCA groups created become available globally in every other mixer. Adjustments made to outputs in a VCA group master in the Master Mixer are global and will be applied to every those outputs in every Point. Adjustments made to outputs in a VCA group master in a Point Mixer are local and will only be applied to that Point. 2. "On-the-fly" Groups Ctrl-clicking on any combination of output faders will create a temporary "on-the-fly" group. Left clicking and adjusting the level or delay on any output in the "on-the-fly" group will add the adjusted values to the relative values of every other output contained in the group. Fader settings may be copied and pasted either individually or in groups. An on-the-fly group of faders may be copied and then "mirrored" to a similar number of faders. This can be useful in reducing setup time since it allows for half a stage setup to be created and then "mirrored" to the remaining half. Providing the onstage positions and theatre speakers are set symmetrically, this can be extremely effective. Any combination of outputs may be simultaneously set to an absolute level or delay value. To do this, adjust an output to the desired level or value. Ctrl-click on the other outputs to which you wish to apply those values, thereby creating an "on-the-fly" group. Right click on the fader or delay pot on the output containing the desired value and you will be given the option to apply this value to all outputs in the group. An "on-the-fly" group may be soloed or muted by clicking on the solo or mute buttons on any output fader contained in the group. An "on-the-fly" group is lost when the user clicks outside of any fader strip contained in the group. "On-the-fly" groups may be created in any mixer. Adjustments made outputs contained in an "on-the-fly" group in the Master Mixer are global and will be applied to those outputs in every Point. Adjustments made to outputs in an "on-the-fly" group in a Point Mixer are local and will only be applied to that Point. Hard and soft mutes The V4 Tracking Engine provides the user with flexible output muting options. An output channel strip may be in any one of three states:
Hard and soft solo The V4 Tracking Engine provides the user with flexible post fader output solo options.
